Margret Kopala

Background: Margret Kopala is a freelance writer, political activist, community volunteer, and homemaker. She is fifty four year old. She was born to descendants of Polish and Ukrainian immigrant homesteaders in the farming communities of Glendon and Bonnyville in northeastern Alberta. Educated in Edmonton (B.A.;B.F.A. University of Alberta), she then worked in British television before settling in Ottawa in 1986.

Political Experience: Progressive Conservative candidate in Ottawa West - Nepean in the 1997 General Election. Formerly President of the Ottawa West (-Nepean) Progressive Conservative Constituency Association (where she became a member in 1993). She also edited its upscale newsletter.

Debating Experience: Margret founded and is chair of the National Debaters' Forum and participates in the Futures and Strategies Network, a citizen based "think tank".

Recognition: Her freelance writing and citizen's initiatives on the constitution led to her being selected as one of the "ordinary Canadians" to participate in the constitutional conferences leading to the Charlottetown Accord.

Community Service: Her extensive background in community service most recently features work as the volunteer producer of a community television show.
